The Vampire Diaries | Season 8 Episode 8 - "We Have History Together"

Spoiler Alert!

The Vampire Diaries is finally back from the winter break and with a pretty different episode, directed by Ian Somerhalder.
Like I said, I feel like this was a pretty different episode, at least, this season. We were 'used to' see Damon being the bad guy and, to be honest, I was starting to get pretty mad at him but this episode the whole thing changed and now Stefan is the bad guy and I actually really liked Damon in this episode.
So, the episode basically follows two storylines, Stefan and Damon and the annoying Sybil. I'm going to start with the Stefan and Damon one because I feel like it's way easier to explain.
As you can remember, in the end of episode 9, Stefan turned off his humanity so this means he's back to his old self. He's trying to control himself to not turn into the reaper, but let's just say that it doesn't really work out (but I'll talk more about that later). Anyway, Damon and Stefan go after people to give to Cade. Stefan chooses a doctor named Tara to turn her 'bad'. We learn that Tara lost her parents in a car crash because of a drunk driver. He then does a pretty messed up plan, compeling her to believe that Damon was that driver. She eventually gives into the darkness and kills Damon, not knowing that he isn't really dead. Later in the episode, Stefan then tells Damon it was all a plan to 'test' Damon. He chose Tara because he not just looked a lot like Elena, but also had a similar life. He also finds Elena's necklace that Damon have been keeping with himself this whole time. Stefan tells him that the necklace (and now Tara) are making him not be 'as bad as he would be' without his humanity and so makes him get rid of the necklace and kill Tara, which he does. But well, in the end, Damon gets back to where the through the necklace and gets it back, while Stefan is at the hospital and... just looses it. His plan to control himself and not turn into the reaper don't really work out and he ends up killing and decapitates everyone in that hospital. And that's pretty much where we end with the Stefan/Damon storyline. Now onto the Sybil storyline.
To begin with, I'm so done with her! Sybil is just an annoying b*tch and seriously, her storyline doesn't seem interesting anymore. Ok, we found a bunch of things in this episode but, comparing with the Cade/Damon/Stefan storyline, and keeping in mind we only have 8 more episodes, things should start happening or we should start to have some answers, which we kind of did in this episode.
Anyway, so in this part of the episode we see Caroline back at the Mystic Falls High School were she went to write an article or something. She then finds out that it was Sybil who 'sent her there' and also finds out that Sybil compeled everyone and is teaching History in the school. And that's when we start finding things out.
We then learn that Sybil's whole plan is to get a bell, a really old bell that she and Seline kind of made like years ago. That was also the part that I got really confused and made me re-watch episode. But after watching the episode twice and also watch some TVD aftershows, I think I got everything right so, here's what I understood:
A long long time ago (and back to Season 1) when the 100 witches were burned in Mystic Falls, both Sybil and Seline were there. One of Matt's ancestors was making a bell, a bell that the witches asked him to do. But, without the witches knowing, Sybil and Seline messed up 'the formula' of the bell. The bell was kept in Matt's family, at this time with his dad, but the Maxwell family was kind of rejected by the other founders family and Peter got really mad that they weren't accepting him and his family because he wasn't rich and just threw the bell on the river, at the Wickery Bridge. Later, Elena's parents had the accident there and, when the police was 'rescuing' the car, Caroline's mum found the bell and kept it with her. When she died, Caroline packed everything and put all the boxes in her garage and yeah, that's how the bell ended up in Caroline's garage.
I think I got everything right. But I must say, it was really hard for me to keep up with all of this. I think it's a good way to tie everything up like this last season to the very first season but I just think it's a lot to take in.
Anyway, finding about that, Caroline and Sybil go to get the damn bell but, guess what? It isn't there! Turns out, Seline got it first and left a note for Sybil, taunting her. And yeah, that was basically it.
Not much happened in the episode. I think it was fine and it gaves us a lot of new information that are actually useful and explain a lot of what is happening, but nothing major happened.
I'm excited for next episodes because first, next episode is going to be a lot about Elena and, although I'm not her biggest fan, it's going to be nice to see some flashbacks, mostly of the Miss Mystic Falls, which is one of my favourite things from the first seasons. Second, it was confirmed that Vicki is going to be in episode 10 and again, although I never really liked her, it's going to be nice to see some old faces and besides, this might mean we are going to hell, which leads me to the third and best thing, Kai! That's right guys, Kai is almost 100% confirmed! Chris Wood a few weeks ago tweeted something about not being about to make it to a TVD convention because he was filming and he then added a little devil emojie and then, a few days ago, Julie also tweeted something about Kai possibly being in one (or more) episodes so, yes people Kai is totally going to be in this last season! You know Kai is my favourite character ever and I'm really really obsessed with him and with Chris Wood so, I just can't wait to see him! Because, if we are going to hell, Kai has to be there! There's no way Kai isn't in hell.
And yeah, that's it!
Hope you guys liked the rant and I'll see in later with a new Shadowhunters rant.
Love,
Daniela.
