The Vampire Diaries | Season 7 Episode 22 - "Gods and Monsters"

Spoiler Alert!

Sadly, one more season of TVD has come to an end and with an unexpected ending.
I must say, it wasn't their best season finale, but I think it built a really good story for next season, which is probably going to be the last one of the series, unfortunately.
I feel like this episode was split into two storylines, the first one being about 'freeing' Bonnie from being the huntress and the second half of it being about The Armory.
So, the episode started with Enzo, Damon, Stefan and Caroline trying to come up with a plan to get inside the Armory to get to the everlasting and, consequently, kill him, this way, stoping Bonnie from killing all of them. I mean, all of them apart from Stefan. Damon even said a line that I found quite funny, saying that if the plan didn't work there was Stefan left to tell everything to Elena. Wouldn't it be funny to see Stefan to only one left? Anyway...
While they come up with a plan, Bonnie, with Matt, go after them, starting with Caroline. Let's just say stuff happens and Matt and Bonnie end up having an accident. Of course, nothing happened to Bonnie, because she's still linked to the everlasting, but Matt ended up injured. Surely, Bonnie didn't stay there with him and went after her friends again.
Meanwhile, Damon is still trying to figure out a plan to break the spell that Bonnie created to lock The Armory and, after the first plan didn't work, he thinks about a new plan, which involves the twins, Alaric's daughters, to siphon the magic. I knew this was going to happen eventually, and it was quite interesting to see the twins 'in action'. Interesting and cute, all the scene between them and Caroline and Alaric, it was pretty cute!
Once again, back to Matt... He's about to die and, in that moment, all I could think about was 'not him too'. I'm so tired off all this deaths, mostly the ones from The Originals that I couldn't deal with another death. Luckily, he regains his consciousness.
The twins end up opening the Armory and Damon and Stefan get inside. While Damon and Stefan get rid of the everlasting, Enzo lures Bonnie into his cabin, almost ending up dead.
For me, that Enzo/Bonnie scenes was one of the best this episode, but again, I'm such a Bonenzo shipper that it was obviously going to be one of my favourite scenes.
Inside the Armory, Damon and Stefan finally find the vault and then, Damon decides that he should be the only one to get in. Damon gets inside the vault and, at first, everything is going on fine. He kills the everlasting, Bonnie doesn't kill Enzo and all their marks disappear, which means, Bonnie is no longer the huntress.
Outside the Armory, Stefan, Caroline and Alaric are still waiting for Damon and that's when Caroline finds out that her mark disappeared and the first thing that she does is run to Stefan, which leaves Alaric kind of sad.
In that moment, I really felt sad for Alaric. Poor guy, never gets the girl. And, in that moment, Caroline and Alaric have the talk in which he says that he's leaving with the girls but that she should stay with Stefan. He knows that she still loves him and, even thought he (Alaric) loves her too, he knows that they wouldn't work and yeah... He leaves and Caroline stays with Stefan, waiting for Damon to get out of there.
After killing the everlasting, Damon calls Stefan, telling that he did it and he's leaving the vault and then, calls Bonnie, in which she ends up forgiving him. When he's about to leave, he hears Elena's voice inside the vault and starts doubting the fact that she his somewhere else, that she is safe and decides to 'follow' the voice.
And that's when things go down.
Something overpowers him and we don't really know what happened to him.
Also, I thought that what was inside the vault was some type of 'spirit', but it seems like it is actually something 'real', like, it has a form, it isn't just a spirit.
Anyway, as they are afraid of what might happen to Damon, everyone rushes inside the Armory and, since Enzo is the only one able to get inside the vault, because he's the only one part of the Armory family, he gets inside and finds a really strange Damon. And, the thing inside the vault ends up overpowering Enzo as well. And that's where everything in real time ends.
After that, the very last scene of the episode, is a flashforward, in which we see what happened to everyone in three months time.
Everyone is looking for Damon and Enzo and after a while, Alaric manages to crack the code to get inside the vault, just to find it empty, no Damon or no Enzo, not even their bodies.
We also learn that Bonnie's magic never came back to her, which makes her feel powerless.
After a while, they start getting reports of people going missing and they realize it's them, Damon and Enzo, the down side is, they don't know where to look for.
Turns out, it really is them. Damon and Enzo have completely lost their humanity and they have been killing people just for sport.
And, the very last scene is Stefan writting in is journal, for Elena, telling her everything that is happening and, everything that Damon have been doing all this time, isn't his fault. And yeah, the end of Season 7.
Overall, it was a good episode but, to be honest, I was expecting a lot more! Basically, the only 'surprising' thing was Enzo getting 'brainwashed' as well, because we all knew that things would go wrong for Damon. The good part is that I can see this devoloping a great storyline for next season, so I'm excited for that.
And, as usual, I have to rant a tiny bit about The Originals. Luckily, this wasn't The Original's season finale, which means, we still have one more episode, whihc is going to be great, I feel it! About this episode, this was an exciting one, but still a sad one. We had to see Davina go, again, which was so sad. But, spoiler alert , Marcel is going to be the beast that's going to take down the Originals so... Excited for that!
Yeah, so... This is the last rant of TVD for a while, which is kind of sad and, since I'm not doing The Originals rants, next week I will only have two rants for you. But, if you want me to rant about The Originals season finale, tell me in the comments and I'll gladly rant about it!
Anyway, tell me in the comments your thoughts about this TVD season finale and, we'll see eachother, with a new TVD rant, in a few months.
Love,
Daniela.
